If you really are looking for something dangerous, fascinating, violent, illuminating and hopeful, you've fallen in the right place.
SYNOPSIS : In the 2030s the world is in turmoil and warfare, while the United Kingdom remains stable under the regime of the Norsefire party. Political prisoners, homosexuals and other undesirables are imprisoned in concentration camps. Evey Hammond, a woman who works at the state-run British Televesion Network, is rescued by a masked vigilante known as "V". He urges the people of Britain to rise up against their government and meet him in one year, on November 5, outside the Houses of Parliament, which he promises to destroy. Evey helps V to escape, but is knocked out in the process.
What I really appreciated in the movie is the historical context, really credible and shocking. The atmosphere is very oppressive and you feel trapped as Evey in this super controled world.
The story is really interesting and shows very well the power of the rebellion and how a people can fight against a governement. I was very impressed by the actors' play. Natalie Portman is very good but the most incredible is Hugo Weaving (V). We can not see his face but his voice is amazing, the pronounciation and the accent reflect perfectly the character's greatness!
I specifically liked the way average citizens react to V actions' against the regime. The movie really conveys a powerful image of rebellion and freedom.
However, be careful : such a movie is quite violent!
People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.
