Celeste & Jesse Forever: simple but efficient!

I am not a comedy/romantic film person. I don't really enjoy watching comedies and most of the time, I find them either stupid or really cliché! Hopefully, I am back with a funny, dramatic, entertaining and unique comedy!

SYNOPSIS: A divorcing couple tries to maintain their friendship while they both pursue other people.

At first, the synopsis scared me. Was I about to watch another weak, mindless and trivial movie? Absolutely not!

The first minutes are amazing and I really like the way that the director chose to express this special relationship between the protagonists with a few shots.

I wouldn't say that the story is especially original or unique but the movie is made in an interesting and different manner.

First, the director Lee Toland Krieger (The Vicious King), has preferred to show the reality and not some stupid really cliché scenes. For example, some dramatic scenes are totally realistic and that probably already happened to you.

Of course, some shots are predictable but everything fit together and you don't have the feeling to see a parade of stereotypes.

Then, I think that the actors did an amazing job in this movie! I had never heard of Rashida Jones and I think she is completely believable in the "lost person who doesn't know what she wants" role.

Andy Samberg is probably the biggest surprise in this movie. He is so far from his other typical roles such as in Growns Up 2, Friends with Benefits, The To-Do List wherein he plays the typical funny/stupid guy. In Celeste & Jesse Forever, he finally has the opportunity to expand his acting to something deeper and certainly better. I thought that he would never succeed in the sad and dramatic scene but he is actually pretty impressive.

The type of humor is really different from the regular comedy. It's more original, unexpected and unique. I found that the chemistry between the two characters was amazing and contrary to what you probably think, the end is surprising! :-)

Oddly, this movie is not famous at all in other countries than the US. Indeed, it received a lot awards (Los Angeles Sundance Festival, etc.) and a lot of good critics. The movie was considered as an independent movie and this is the reason why it has not even come out in Europe!

If you are looking for an entertaining, funny but no silly movie, don't hesitate! Grab your remote and go ahead!

Do you wanna be right or wanna be happy? Sometimes the end is just the beginning!
