Another stupid comedy? A bland romance? A pseudo sci-fi movie? Those words definitely not define About Time, the new movie from Richard Curtis, the director of Love Actually.
After approaching the basic love comedy with a Christmas background, he decided to get into the world of science-fiction.
SYNOPSIS: At the age of 21, Tim discovers that he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. His decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think. Indeed, a superpower doesn't spare you from the ups and downs of life.
Here are 4 reasons to go and watch it.
#1 The dialogues are brilliant. Every line is studied and fits perfectly the movie and they really burst out. There are a few scathing cues that are particularly well written.
#2 The actors are really good. Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter) definitely proves that he can play in a comedy and Rachel McAdams plays her part fairly good! Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean, Love Actually), who plays Tim's father, is truly amazing. He succeeds in giving a touching side to his character without sinking into the melodrama.
#3 The story is pretty original but most of the originality is coming from the fact that the movie is a mix of genres: comedy, drama, romance and science-fiction which is surprising and allows the viewer to go through different emotions and feelings.
#4 More than making you laugh and cry, the movie is also about the way you manage your life and the issues that you might find on your way. Who has never thought about "if I could go back in time, I would change that!"? About Time reflects on the fact that the past has happened, it is printed in our memories. We can't do anything to change it, because, at some point, it's a part of us. All you can do is moving on, and enjoying each day of your life.
I think that this movie is a really good entertainment. It drags you into its own world and carries a message of hope, joy and optimism.
